Our Story

Tavey began inventing games when he was just a wee lad, using his dad’s office supplies as game pieces. I hated board games as a kid—especially Monopoly. I spent most of my time reading books.

We met in Beijing at an event called Dungeons, Dragons, Dinner, and Drinks. Tavey was my Dungeon Master.

In 2020, Marco called Tavey up and asked, “Can you make a board game?” And so, while quarantining in Texas with me, Tavey used miscellaneous pieces from Heroes of Dominaria to make a game about space bears mining asteroids.

Remembering the table-flipping family game nights of my childhood, I asked if he could make it cooperative. With a few tweaks, his space-bear game turned into the incredibly unique cooperative puzzle game, Tiny Robot Love Doctors (attempted Kickstarter in August 2022) We played it nearly every day, and not one table was flipped! In fact, we still liked each other so much that we got married and had a few babies.

Considering our love for D&D and storytelling, Tavey then created Deck Tales—a collaborative storytelling card game that gives all players equal control of the narrative.

Seeing the potential for these games to change the gaming landscape, Marco, Tavey, and I created 8Ways Games (8Ways, LLC) and began playtesting. Tavey now works closely with the wonderful folks at Very Special Games to design fantastically unique games like Bloomchasers.

In a time filled with confusion and division, our mission is to build community and encourage everyone to share their stories.
